Switching to solar can be a confusing process
We are here to guide you through it
- What's the first step in this process?
- You've already taken the first step. By clicking this website, you're well on your way to lead the solar revolution in your neighborhood. From here, it's easy to get us to provide a free proposal -- just ask. All we need from you are Your Name, Your Address, Your Phone Number, Your Email, and a good time and day for asales representative to call you.
- Does solar require a lot of maintenance? Am I going to be up on my roof every weekend, cleaning?
- Our solar installations have no moving parts, so maintenance is minimal. It is recommended that you keep an eye on trees that may shade your system and occasionally clean your system –- perhaps at the same time you clean out your gutter -- but that's it. If you want, our team can set you up with a Solar Lease that comes with a complete maintenance package.
- Is my roof big enough for solar?
- Great question. The key is figuring out whether there's enough space to make sure we can reduce your energy enough to create substantial savings for you and your household. The size of your system will depend largely on your unique energy usage and your roof, which is why it's so important for our contractors to work with you to create a custom design. Contact us today and we'll get started designing a system at no upfront cost to you.
- How long will my solar panels last?
- Solar panels (sometimes called "PV" panels) degrade very slowly. Our Solar Lease guarantees energy production for 20 years, and our manufacturer warranties cover the panels for another five years even beyond that. PV panels on satellites launched decades ago are still functional to this day!
- What happens at night, or when the weather is cloudy?
- Less power will be produced on cloudy days and no power will be produced at night, BUT your system is still connected to the local utility grid, so there will be no interruptions to your power, no lever or button you need to mess with to switch back and forth. If there is a black out, then your system will turn off so that the electric company may repair their lines safely.
- How exactly does solar power work?
- Typically installed on your roof, a solar panel will turn the sunlight it receives into direct current (DC) power. The DC from the panels is then sent to an inverter that converts it to alternating current (AC) power, which is standard for your home. The AC from the inverter travels to the electrical panel and is now ready to use. Your new Net Meter measures both how much electricity you are producing, and how much your house is consuming. When your system produces more than you need, the meter will spin backwards. This translates into a credit on your next bill – so you pay even less!
- Will my solar installation help save the environment? How much?
- Your solar consultant can include figures with your proposal stating precisely how many planted trees your solar system will account for, and other information like the amount of fuel that this nation will save by your having these solar panels. Solar is a clean form of energy that provides reliable power for your home. By switching to solar, you reduce your dependence on fossil fuels, that when burned emit harmful pollutants.
- What if I don't believe in climate change? Why else should I install solar?
- The solar industry is one of the fastest-growing in the United States, and provides well-paying jobs for many Americans. Furthermore, solar energy is a source of domestic energy production for the United States, and reduces our dependence on foreign energy as well as keeping your dollars here.
- The governemnt is actually paying people to switch to solar, right?
- Yes! Federal, State and local governments offer rebates and tax credits for switching to solar. This can save you more than 30% of the total cost. These will depend on your state and since these were put in place for the “early birds,” once everyone else starting switching these incentives will be smaller or go way entirely.
- What if I move homes?
- Solar homes have a higher resales value, so there are a few ways to pass on your solar to the new owers: if they qualify with excellent credit then you can transfer a SolarLease OR you can prepay the lease and add it to your asking price OR with a SolarPPA you can have the system moved to your new home.
- What happens at the end of my contract?
- At the end of a lease you can upgrade to a new system, you can extend your agreement in 5 year increments> Or you can ask to have the system removed for no upfront cost. At the end of a SolarPPA you can upgrade, extend, remove, OR purchase your system!
- Is it hard to switch to solar?
- No. Once you pick an option that works best for you, in only takes a few minutes to sign up for solar.
- How much will this whole thing cost me?
- Each home is different, so when our sales rep builds you a FREE customized proposal s/he will include several options for saving – including $0 down!
- What makes solar a better alternative for me and my home?
- Sunlight itself is free, whereas it costs to burn coal and oil and their prices keep changing. Solar secures you a lower, consistent rate. It eliminates your dependence upon volatile foreign markets and leaves you extra spending money in your pocket each month.
- Is it really possible to get a solar system for $0 down, and still pay less for energy than I'm paying now...?
- Most states must hit a certain level of renewable energy production by 2020. To help them achieve this goal, there are many incentives to help homeowners like you install solar for no upfront cost and pay less for energy. Besides that, solar energy is a clean, renewable energy source. The system needs little to no maintenance, and will produce energy for no upfront cost whenever the sun is shining. With a solar energy system, you can even have the electric utility pay you for energy!
